Rachael is a watercolour artist based in Manchester, UK. Her practice focuses on surreal portraiture, inspired by people themselves: their thoughts, feelings, and shared life experiences. Though she paints portraits, they are rarely based on real individuals. Instead, they act as avatars, each one representing the internal themes she is drawn to explore.
She is fascinated by how each viewing of art is shaped, and often distorted, by the viewer's individual life experiences. The aim of the art is to give the beholder the impetus to create their own stories around it.
When she’s not painting, Rachael embraces her inner nerd with a deep love for fantasy, horror, and all things strange and otherworldly. She spends much of her time immersed in one of her many hobbies, most of which involve some form of creative gameplay. Her studio is also home to two cats, so every painting comes with a complimentary strand of cat hair.
